  Sad Family News.....

  on friday morning, sometime before noon, my former son-in-law [for lack of better term, for he and my daughter were never married], father and custodial parent of my middle granddaughter, was found dead of an overdose of pain-medication.

  perhaps oxycontin, though i am unsure of the specific drug at the moment.. he was enduring pain from an accident with his moped [yes, he was lifetime license removed for drinking] that occurred a year or so back.

  his shoulder was injured and he had a surgery scheduled soon.

  from personal experience i know it usually happens at the end of a district convention.

  it would be either the do, co or an experienced elder.. they usually go through everything that was said throughout the dc and thank jehovah for this and that...... last year i used my stop watch to record the time taken by our do,.

  Oh, does this bring back tortured memories. The Yankee Stadiums prayers were long but the local KH prayers were even longer. They just talked and talked without making any point. I just wanted to leave asap, no stat.

  Freddie Franz said the time period involving not just her creation, adaptation was impt but her menstrual cycle too. All the above is revitting when I read my Bible. Yes, siree, those Hebrew Scriptures authors were consumed by the time pd. between Adam and Eve. Eve's menstrual cycle, too. I wonder if she were unclean,even before the Fall.

  I was dragged against my will, what are other excuses? It is hard to keep a straight face.

  Question on Christmas Lights

  in the jw world, is there a difference between christmas lights and chile lights?.

  chile lights are the same damn idea, but they are used as a party decoration all year long.

  I never heard of Chile lights. In NY, we call them non-Xmas lights white lights or Italian lights. Tavern on the Green in Central Park, now defunct, was outlined in them all year. They are very beautiful. My first impulse is Christmas lights! I need to take my tree down, which means I need better storage for my ornaments. Luchows, also defunct and very popular, had their Christmas tree up all year. I am certain downtown venues also do so to parody Christmas madness.

  Watchtower 1954 claims Jesus had nice short hair and NO BEARD....remember the pictures?

  flicking thru some old watchtowers i was suprised to see pictures of jesus clean shaven with short hair!!

  wachtower 1954 p.511 "why do watchtower books now show jesus with short hair and no beard?

  ...because he was shown that way in representations of him that are older then traditional effeminate looking pictures..." {having a beard is not so effeminate may refer to long hair}.

  My mom encouraged me to express my views after we left the Witnesses. I purchased a poster of a bored hippie in a middle class church and placed it on my wall. It wasn't as cool as other posters. He had long hair, sandals and was dressed in white garb. Months elapsed. One day we were discussing the poster and I referred to it as my hippie bored in church poster. My mom responded what hippie? Don't you realize that is Jesus? I ran upstairs and saw it in new light.

  My other poster I grabbed from the grape workers' union. It showed a bunch of grapes and a boycott logo. I was proud of it b.c it was hard to obtain in the East. I looked at it daily for years. One evening around twilight I had an epiphany. Those grapes had a skull inside! It had been hiding all the time. I was petrified of demons. As quickly as humanly possible, I asked my bro if he wanted my poster. He relied yes. The whole awareness and transfer took less than two minutes. He could not believe his good luck. I don't know if he saw the skull.

  Jesus and the skull are excessive. Perhaps my teenage brain had not matured enough to make such distinctions. My mom threw out my Woodstock poster that we were given in Bethel, NY one week before the event. Later, I showed her the going price for such posters in New York magazine. Shoe took my friend and myself to Woodstock since I was too young to drive through a couple of NY counties.

  I kept David McCallul's eye photo in my wallet for years. The joy and fun of being a teenage girl. All hard fought for against the Witnesses.

  Continuity of the Bible - Start to Finish

  i was asked in a previous topic whether i thought the bible had continuity in its thought/teaching from start to finish, from old to new testament.

  you can argue from specific passages taken apart and out of context that the bible contradicts itself, but, all in all, there is one message-that of love, a father's love.

  the bible is the story of a father who creates a family (beginning with adam and eve), but they break their bond with him.

  The only continuity I see is a constantly changing persona of God. There is such an obvious contrast as time moves on. There are far more differences than any consistency. God's love is sorely lacking time and time again. Humans have more morality than God in many places. Love may be a theme in the Greek scriptures but then Revelation comes along. If it is taken literally, which it never was meant to be taken, a loving God does not bring Armageddon. Women are not dirt as in the nonPauline Pauline scriptures. The Hebrew scriptures are chockful of a vengeful, angry, lunatic God wiping out entire civilizations so the Jews can have more land. The Psalms combine prayers of love with vents of hatred and horror at God.

  You probably stay b/c you are comfortable. You may have forgotten what a good relationship is. I veered towards bad relationships with men like my father altho I hated my father. It is called a trauma bond. The abuse tightens the bond. It is not a rational response. When I say comfortable, I mean habitual. It is very similar to being in a cult. Inertia also takes hold. Leaving is scary even if you assured a good outcome.

  Someone posted about leaving home here. Just b/c something is in your best interests, doesn't make it easy?

  You can't control your wife. The only person you can manage is yourself. There are multiple self-help marriage and divorce groups available. The first partner to see a lawyer usually ends up with more money. It is good to have a plan in place to execute. Rather, than a sudden impulse. Even if she is baiting you, you need to walk away or leave. Go somewhere where she cannot follow.

  If you no longer believe, the stress on the marriage must be great. She may not seek a divorce but the brothers will feed her own views of the relationship. Altho you may no longer be in love with her, leaving is very hard, painful work. Get a plan, Stan. Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover is Paul Simon was so funny precisely b/c it is not easy to leave. The end result will be beneficial.

  My Witness father beat me. I responded by losing my cool several times. Loony behavior on my part demeaned me. Take a higher road. It is very hard to argue with the air in the room.

  CO will sit in on my "study" this week: any suggestions?

  in my "study" with jw's, we're in ch 7 of the "bible teach" book.

  we did pars 17-20 last week.

  this week, the co is in town, and my conductor is having him sit in.

  The sad part is that you are engaging in this "study" to please your friend, to show her you respect her beliefs. The study is going to lead to a complete breach with your friend. There are only two choices: give up your mind or leave. The Witnesses don't allow any other choice. You may believe you can carve out a differing choice but your friend cannot. She is brainwashed.

  My family has been in since Bible Students day. My great uncles and great grandfather believed they were the remnant b/c all Bible students believed that. It was generational. My grandmother was part of the Great Crowd. It would have been viewed as lunacy and sheer arrogance for any of her generation to be annointed. It stayed this way for generations. My grandmother doubted the authethenticity of my great-grandfather's remnant status but the Witnesses recognized it. Brothers were privileged to bring him the emblems when he was too ill to attend a Kingdom Hall.

  I forgot Rutherford, Knorr's and Franz status. Henschel,s too. Sometimes in the sixties, we attended KH and the very young, very egoistic Overseer wrote to Bethel that he was remnant. It takes a very large head and no humility. Being very long time Witnesses, we laughed so hard at him. We expected Bethel to put him in his place. Rather, he was encouraged. We never accepted him as more than a faker. The Society started saying that the 144,000 already before the throne of God, absent two or three old geezers still alive, were falling away in heaven and needed to be replaced. One is never safe. No one is good enough. This teaching ran against the totality of teachings about 144,000. Since only one or two were alive and sans Armageddon, a solution was needed. When is enough enough! Why worship a God that can't keep a bunch of humans before his very throne faithful? When will Jesus align with Satan? There is no safety, no faithfulness. Doctrines don't matter. They can change in a whim. Want to die for this crap? My God may leave me with questions but my God is faithful and loving. No one would fall away from my God. Their Jehovah and Jesus, the non Christ, are puny.

  You will lose your friend unless you exit now.-- a prediction. Your wilingness to study for her is admirable.
